Madrid, 6 May 2022.

The High Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations (CSCAE, for its initials in Spanish) – as the driving force behind the 2022 UIA International Forum on “Affordable Housing Activation: Removing Barriers” – has announced that COMPAC, the leading Spanish firm in the manufacture and distribution of terrazzo, quartz and obsidian surfaces, will be present at the 2022 UIA International Forum, leading the debate around the development of housing with sustainable materials.

As such, COMPAC will be taking part in the global debate on access to housing promoted by the 2022 UIA International Forum. Likewise, the company undertakes to promote the event on both a national and international level and will create exemplary cases of good practices for the development of housing with sustainable materials, to be posted on the 2022 UIA Forum’s content platform: ahamadrid.com.

The president of the CSCAE, Marta Vall-Ilossera, has expressed her satisfaction with the signing of this agreement, which demonstrates the interest that this forum has been able to arouse among construction-sector agents in tackling one of the main problems of our contemporary society, on a global level, joining forces to find medium- and long-term solutions capable of ensuring the existence of a universal right to decent and adequate housing. “The 2022 UIA International Forum has assembled the most prestigious international bodies, public administrations on all scales, businesses and institutions, and the greatest experts in the field. To date, more than 30 side events have been held across the world and, over the next few days – on 18, 19 and 20 May – Madrid will become the world epicentre of the debate regarding a challenge requiring the participation of all parties in order to offer an effective response that improves people’s lives”.

COMPACT CEO, Paco Sanchis, highlights that, “At COMPAC, we offer our support to the architecture sector, both for future generations and for established professionals. We remain at the service of architects and are committed to meeting the most demanding technical needs with unique and creative designs”. COMPAC’s collaboration with the 2022 UIA International Forum forms part of the company’s commitment to bring itself closer to citizens by opening a fundamental dialogue between design, architecture and society: “Our collaborations with prestigious architects, designers and artists represent one of the company’s most distinctive features, as we continue pursuing customisation and the very best solutions, adapted to each specific case, thereby taking an active role in the relationship between industry and architecture”.

A global movement, accessible from the platform for content concerning access to housing

As part of the 2022 UIA International Forum on “Affordable Housing Activation: Removing Barriers”, the International Union of Architects (UIA) and the High Council of Spanish Architects’ Associations (CSCAE) are leading the debate on access to housing by hosting over 30 side events across the world. These events, organised by various international entities, have been organised with the aim of launching a process of reflection regarding the main barriers that prevent access to housing – such as funding and imbalances between housing needs and production, for example – with the aim of tackling the problem from various fields: funding, regulations or issues related to urban planning and design.

The debate, which will be concluded at the 2022 UIA International Forum on “Affordable Housing Activation: Removing Barriers” in Madrid, from 18 to 20 May 2022, will transform the Spanish capital into the centre of the global debate on access to housing. The event can also be followed on www.ahamadrid.com, the number-one global platform for content concerning access to housing, on which the side events held across the world will be broadcast and exemplary cases will be shared from all six inhabited continents, alongside specific presentations analysing the barriers that impede access to housing. For this, comprehensive solutions and approaches have been offered, capable of breaking down these barriers through architecture and urban planning and involving all relevant agents in order to develop long-term action plans around a future international agreement, benefitting from the maximum support of organisations, governments, companies and institutions, and with the capacity to bring together and reach a consensus on the minimum keys to habitability, through sustainability.
